• I really enjoyed Spain but the host families were not understanding and were not as nice and patient as they should be.
11. Briefly describe your best experience in this program:
• Traveling around and talking to the locals.
• Being in Spain.
• Nightlife with everyone.
• I really enjoyed going to Segovia and Salamanca. I also went to a wine museum and that was fun.
• The three days I wasn't sick.
• Meeting people.
• The excursions.
• The excursions we planned.
• Meeting people I wouldn't normally hangout with and traveling to San Sebastian. Loved the dinner! The futbol game and bullfight.
• Weekend excursions and the professors.
• Talking in Spanish with Nieves for thirty minutes without using English.
• Meeting new people from different countries.
• Meeting so many new people.
• Meeting new people through the program.
• Meeting new friends that I plan on staying in touch with in the States.
12. Briefly describe your worst experience in this program:
• Riding the bus everyday.
• Being woken up early on the weekends.
• Another school starting one week ahead of us and having to catch up.
• The host family was not fun to live with. She yelled at me and treated me poorly.
• The rain for the first week!
• Having to adjust to the host family and what they expect from you. Sometimes they aren't understanding and I'm used to being independent and not having to explain where I'm going and when.
• Getting used to the food and waking up too early for classes.
• The breakfast and having to pay for museums.
• Food.
• My first night in the new house.
• My host mom was very irrational and would scream and slam doors, get in your face and threaten you if you didn't shut the door or anything ridiculous like that.
• Having to be at home all the time.
• Paying all this money and not feeling like I learned much.
13. List information that you did not receive that you think is important for future students to have:
• We paid for a textbook and never received one.
• The class schedule.
• To bring presents for family. More information on international cell phones so they don't waste money. Didn't receive a book, which would have helped.
• That the host family doesn't speak ANY English. Information about how the classes work beforehand
• Bring multiple walking shoes!
• Bring skinny jeans because ya'll will lose like ten pounds. Also, bring twice as much money as you think you'll need because euros go fast!!! And it rains…A LOT! Bring a present for the host family.
• Weather.
• Make sure to have and adapter for the plugs.
Comments or suggestions:
• Great!
• Bring a laptop, books and umbrella.
• Nieves and Yuri were amazing and did a great job at being flexible and available for the students, Universitas Castallae was very unorganized. We never received a book for class.
• Bring more money than you think you need.
• Definitely plan on staying after the program ahead of time to save money and lower stress. Also stay the night after the excursions. Salamanca is a party town.
• I think having a book would help a lot because there is only so much I can understand in class and having a book would give me the opportunity to help teach myself. Warn us more about the host families. Overall it was a great experience…I'm so glad I came! Lots of great memories.
• It was a little rough having four people in a house. I think it hinders learning Spanish. Because you don't talk to family as much.
• Bring your host mom a present. Seriously bring a gift because no one told us Bring a lot of money! Everything is really expensive and you have to pay to go on the excursions. Also, water isn't free and if you want a coke it's about two to three and a half Euros at a restaurant. The school is extremely unorganized and won't give you a textbook. Bring your laptop. I was lucky enough to have wireless at my house but three weeks after being offered WiFi my host decided she was going to charge everyone 20 Euros for it. There are only a few computers at school and the lab is not 24 hours. It rains a lot! It rained the entire first 3 weeks we were here. It was also freezing cold. Bring an umbrella and really warm clothes. Bring a lot of clothes because the host families are stingy with the laundry situation. Yuri and Nieves are good people to study with. The food is really different and it's hard to get used to it. Lunch is a huge meal and dinner is very small. They eat dinner really late and buy cokes and snacks for yourself because your host mom won't.
• Bring a present/lots of money.
• Enough chairs for students to sit in, clean classrooms, wireless internet, students shouldn't have to pay for museum entrances, we were mixed with students from other schools who were way more advanced than us.
